The Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbados are most suited for shorter breaks from the UK, with direct flight times from the UK of less than 9 hours, short transfers and of course, sunshine.
Villas, interconnecting rooms and suites in beachfront resorts, provide an abundance of accommodation suitable for some afternoon revision. Most resorts offer and array of water and land sports
The islands also offer unique experiences outside the resorts, Antigua has stingray city and possibly one of the most scenic zip wire centres in the world. Barbados’ many catamaran trips offer the chance to swim with sea creatures and enjoy the open seas for half a day.
Another option for over 16 year olds, who enjoy health and fitness is Le Sport, which is located at the tip of St Lucia. The high end resort includes a daily spa treatment, numerous gym classes and sporting opportunities.
Or why not one of the 700 islands which make up The Bahamas? The main islands have more of an American feel, but with their beautiful pink sanded beaches, it’s an east fly and flop. You can also swim with the famous sea pigs.

European Beach Pre-Exam ideas
The most reliable weather in Europe in April can be found in the Canary Islands. In both 2023 and 2024 temperatures in Southern Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife fell between 23-29 degrees daily.
Flight options are numerous and direct at around 4 hours and many spacious accommodation options can be found in villas, apartments, apart-hotels and interconnecting rooms in hotels.
Water parks and water sports can provide an alternative to a morning by the pool, before some revision takes place.

Sometimes, a short 3 day city break is perfect for some downtime before heading back home to study. Destinations such as Berlin can enhance revision, providing insight into events during WW2, practicing your French in a cafe could provide a little confident for that tricky French aural or the architecture and cuisine of Seville could provide inspiration for an Art or Food Tech practical.

The up and coming island of Cape Verde has improved it’s food and service. Guaranteed sunshine and a flight time of 6 hours makes it an option for a shorter holiday pre-exams. There is little to do outside the resorts though. Currently only TUI offer direct flights and it’s considerably cheaper to book directly with them if you’re considering this option.
